1 Kalighat Kali Temple is regarded as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas and is dedicated to the Hindu goddess Maha Kali (Kalika).
2 It is located on the banks of the Adi Ganga river, which is in the oldest neighborhood of South Kolkata.
3 As per Hindu beliefs, this temple represents the site where Goddess Sati’s toes of right feet are said to have fallen.
4 The temple was initially a small hut and its present form has been erected by the respected Roy Choudhury family.
5 This temple is about 200 years old Shakti Kshetra, however, it has been mentioned in centuries-old scriptures including Mansar Bhasan and Kavi Kankan Chandi.
6 Devotees strongly believe that Goddess Kalika in this temple is present here in her completely awakened form and she fulfills every visitor’s wishes.
7 Nakhuleshwar Mahadev Temple, located on the opposite side of the main temple, is the most significant as it is dedicated to the consort of Goddess Kalika.
